Someone is in a good or a bad mood? In show 45 we teach you some different ways to say that : "être du mauvais (bon) poil".
Literal translation
To be of bad (good) hair (note : this idiom is not to be confused with the English expression "to have a bad hair day")
English equivalent
To be in a bad/shitty (or good) mood
To be in a temper/snit
To be grumpy/cranky/pissed off/snarky/cantankerous/shitty
French equivalent
Être de mauvaise (bonne) humeur

Few remarks:
-être de mauvais poil is really a mood thing
"il est de mauvais poil aujourd'hui" which mean in comparison with other days.
yet you could say "il est toujours de mauvais poil"
-It's more something related with other people, not being sad.
Katia: you are mixing with "se lever du mauvais/bon pied" which is another expression.
